REQUIREMENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS

1. General Criteria for Deposit of Microbiological Material in NBIMCC.

  • NBIMCC accepts for deposit bacteria, actinomycetes, yeasts, fungi, plasmid-bearing bacteria, animal and plant viruses, and animal cell lines.
  • NBIMCC accepts for deposit only microbiological objects belonging to risk group 1 and 2.
  • The depositor must provide sufficient information about the biological material to draw up a proper risk assessment.
  • The deposited material must be: a pure culture for open deposit; a pure culture or defined as mixed one (up to 3 strains) for patent and safe deposit.
  • The deposited material can be preserved by cryogenic or lyophilic conservation without significant change.

2. Preparation of Biological Material for Deposit.

2.1. Microorganisms:
  • Actively growing culture (preferable form):
    - open and patent deposit – 3 plates with single colonies;
    - safe deposit – 3-5 slants with compact growth.
  • Freeze-dried culture:
    - open deposit – not less than 15 samples;
    - patent deposit – not less than 10 samples;
    - safe deposit – not more than 20 samples.
  • Frozen culture in cryotubes:
    - open and patent deposit – this form is not acceptable;
    - safe deposit – not more than 20 samples.
2.2. Animal cell lines – frozen culture in cryotubes:

- open deposit – not less than 6 samples;
- patent deposit – not less than 12 samples;
- safe deposit – not more than 20 samples.

2.3. Animal viruses – freeze-dried or frozen in cryotubes:

- open and patent deposit – not less than 20 samples;
- safe deposit – not more than 20 samples.

2.4. Plant viruses – 5 g fresh leaf material with pronounced symptoms.

3. Instruction for Opening Ampoules with Freeze-Dried Specimens.
