ABOUT NBIMCC

The National Bank for Industrial Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (NBIMCC) was established in 1984 as State scientific budget organization, successor to the Bulgarian Type Culture Collection (BTCC), founded in 1950.

Since August 2011 the NBIMCC is a specialized institute with the same name in the structure of the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy - Sofia.

The NBIMCC is:

  • Registered under No. 135 in the World Federation of Culture Collections (WFCC) on 07.01.1986.
  • Member of the European Culture Collections Organization (ECCO) since 1987.
  • International depositary authority according to the "Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganism for the Purposes of Patent Procedure" by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) since 1987.
  • Partner in an international project for developing a European Biological Resource Centres Network – EBRCN (2003-2006). EBRCN is continuation of the project for Common Access to Biological Resources and Information (CABRI).

NBIMCC Management system is certified to the quality standard ISO 9001 since 2014, for preservation, supply, import and export of microorganisms and cell cultures.
